Foundation Trials and Errors, and my humble birthday =)

Hi everyone!! Sorry I've been so MIA but I really hope you're all out and about and too busy enjoying your summer to notice little ol' me anyway!! You'll accept this loooooooong post as a peace offering and forgive me, right? *puppy eyes*

As you know, I've been on the hunt for my perfection foundation...and still no luck! Even though I wear very little makeup during the day, I still want to find the perfect foundation for going out at night, especially since it usually means taking a lot of pictures with bright flash. My idea of the perfect foundation is one that feels lightweight but offers enough coverage for a natural and flawless look, and doesn't make my face look ghost white in pictures with flash. What a MISSION this is, indeed!

I actually liked the MAC Studio Sculpt (from the makeover for the wedding I went to last month) BUT it failed the flash test (completely and utterly). So I went by the MAC store because I wanted to try the Studio Tech foundation (in NC 30 applied by a MAC MUA). What did I think of it? Felt heavy and kind of sticky and cakey. =( I know from reading Julie's review that if I buy it, I could thin it out with Fix+. The funny thing was that the MUA said Studio Tech is lighter than Studio Sculpt (used on me for my friend's wedding), but I actually liked Studio Sculpt better because it felt more lightweight. And...this one also failed the camera flash test (I know by now you're questioning my camera flash, but let me point out that it's only MY face that comes out white and not anyone else's, guys or girls with makeup).

I also went to Sephora and tried the Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation, which I reallllllllllly wanted to like but it just did not agree with my skin. =\ So...the search continues! Woe is me, to be a girl!

But...aside from that...last week was my birthday!! I'm not the type to announce my upcoming birthday unless I decide to make plans and invite you (so if you weren't invited, you didn't know about it! jk), but thank you to everyone who somehow found out anyway and wished me a happy birthday!!

I had a nice dinner at Yamashiro in Hollywood, it's a Japanese themed place (obviously...you couldn't tell by the name?) situated up on the side of a hill overlooking L.A./Hollywood.

the Koi Room/Garden Court in the center of the restaurant

Rather quaint, don't you think? But...you know me...moving on to the food! hehe

"Pacific Oyster Shooters"
sake, ponzu, scallion, smelt egg, chili paste...mmm so good..
"Snow Crab and Spicy Tuna Napoleon"
snow crab, spicy tuna, avocado, wonton crisps, wild arugula, wasabi aioli
"Cupid"
malibu rum, strawberries, coconut, pineapple, galliano float (basically...a strawberry daiquiri!)
"Dragon"
unagi, crab, avocado, cucumber
"Cracked Pepper Filet Mignon" (medium rare)
grilled artichoke, twice-baked wasabi potato, cabernet reduction
"Seared Ahi Tuna"
caramelized onion and potato tart, confit tomato, sauteed spinach, white soy veloute
and since it was my birthday...ice cream!!

Here are some more shots from outside the restaurant...apparently they do events (and even weddings, according to the website)...anyways, there was a pool! and a pagoda...

not a bad view, don't you agree? =)

I am a big sucka for city lights at night...especially in the summer!! *le sigh

FAST FORWARD to Sunday night at
the OC FAIR...

(Oh yes, I went out Friday night but you just had to be there!)

you'll forgive me for this bad pic once you know what it is!
might I tell you it's delicious and that's partially why I look like a fiend ready to bite into it?!
ahhh yes, my tweethearts know it's Deep Fried Oreos!!
the fair is the place to get deep fried foods...like this yummy deep fried zucchini (picture doesn't do the size justice, they're longer than stadium hot dogs!)
standard fair picture with the ferris wheel background (sorry I'm looking craptastic but it was the end of the weekend!)
looking up at the ferris wheel...
looking down from the ferris wheel!
change the camera setting a bit...
aww I love petting the animals at the petting zoo at the fair!
soooo soft and comfy....

And then my camera battery died...haha whoops! I forgot to charge it from going out Friday night. So no pictures of the yummy Deep Fried Twinkie (it just looked like a soft corn dog anyway), giant grilled Turkey leg (huge!), or the rides we went on...but all in all, it was a fun night and a fun birthday weekend!!

Next posts...some birthday love from my blog sweethearts!! Thank you for being such thoughtful and generous girls...you really know how to make a girl smile!!

Hope everyone's ready for a great weekend!!

  7. Happy Belated Birthday! I love the OC fair, I got 2 words for you: Funnel Cake!

Onto your dilema, I've been trying a bunch of different foundation lately too. I did not like the MUF HD one either, but the day I returned it I picked up the Korres Wild Rose Foundation, and I'm really loving that one, you should try it.

I tend to not like MAC foundations but I did buy the MAC HYPER REAL foundation for those nights when I go out and I really like it. Only catch is you have to buy it from a MAC PRO store. I'm NC25 I could send you a sample of mine just so you could see the effect if you wanted.

    Bye!

  20. hey diana! your food photos look de-lish! i actually decided on studio fix fluid (not creme)! loved the coverage but i'm in between colors so that's another battle i have to deal with. you know what i've noticed? all MAC associates have different opinions/recommendations on everything. even at the Pro store -- the MUA there told me that Face & Body foundation was buildable to full. Yea right! BTW- MAC artists don't need to go thru an extensive training course before they hit the stores. they hire anyone who passes the interview and on-site makeup application test. (i asked one of the artists.) no wonder all of the ones i've talked to have different recommendations. just an FYI that i thought might be helpful for you.. since you're also on a quest to find a best-ever product. =)
