Randomly Roaming in Tokyo

Here are the last of my photos from my short Tokyo trip. I'm sorry I couldn't post sooner but better late than never, right? Actually, wait, I still have pics from the airport, but you can do without those, right? keke If not, I'll post them next time when I announce the Natural Radiance giveaway winner!

This was my simple hotel room. Is this what a college dorm single looks like? Wouldn't know since I didn't dorm. This is actually probably smaller, haha. It was very small but I'd expected that so I wasn't surprised. These kinds of rooms really are made for small people though. When I stood in the tiny bathroom, I could touch the ceiling with my hands and I'm only 5'1.5" (155 cm.)!

I stayed in Shinjuku in the skyscraper district. This area reminded me a lot of downtown LA, but much cleaner. My hotel room had a view of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

It was only a short walk to Shinjuku station and shopping. Aside from meeting up with Nic, this was my home base and where I spent the rest of my time in Tokyo.

Rain or shine, I was here...mostly rain, hehe, and more cloudy gray than shine.

Shinjuku is a really great location to stay in if you want to be able to walk around and shop, as well as find lots of restaurants. It's also very well lit at night and you'll see tons of people.

I ate a lot of yummy foods in Tokyo but tried not too indulge too much since I wanted to lose my winter weight, haha. I already miss all the fresh, homemade noodles!

A lot of the small restaurants have machines outside where you pay for your meal first. It's kind of cool and efficient, unless you have a question about the item or, orrrrrr if the machine doesn't have pictures and you can't read Japanese.

Since I wasn't eating a lot, I mean like big meals on my own, a lot of what I had was rather simple and usually under 1,000 yen.

The weather was rather gray and chilly while I was there so I ate lots of comfort foods, like this Tsukemen chashu ramen, which is a dipping ramen. The serving was huge! It was very delicious although salty. The ramen was fresh and fat, haha, just the way I like my noodles.

Karage (Japanese fried chicken or in this case, I think it was pork) curry, potato croquet, and soba soup.

There were tons of Family Marts and lots of 7-11s everywhere. A lot of the food selections were similar to Famima!! and Mitsuwa, but of course I found some  new things to try like the Boss French Roast coffee and other snacks like dessert cups and chocolates.

This Monday is Memorial Day so for everyone in the states, I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend! I will most likely announce the giveaway winners either late Monday or on Tuesday, so please come back and check then.

  6. thanks for sharing, Diana!

i am not a big fan of travelling myself since i've had too many  uncomfortable trips due to my work when i was younger. lol
i do love looking at other people's travel pictures, though.

you are a very tall girl! ;D

  9.  Lol I think usually rice dishes are healthier, maybe? I think the salty ramen made my face look fat and swollen the next day, lol. I would definitely have shared it with you, it was such a huge portion!

  10.  I know, right? I guess tall people have to...specify that they're tall and request more expensive rooms? I couldn't imagine someone 6' taking a shower in that bathroom! There sure is a lot of pressure in Japan and Korea to be skinny and small, hehe. Aw I think you will enjoy your summer in UK! Can't wait to see all of your pics and posts when you go. :)

  11.  Aww really? There are def pros and cons to traveling alone. I think if I'd traveled with someone, maybe I would have taken more touristy pics and eaten at some of the nicer restaurants. I guess next time or at least someday! :)

  12. Everything here looks fabulous! Believe it or not, I've been to Tokyo a few times and always stayed in Shinjuku but never made it to the Metropolitian building! This just tells me how much more I need to explore of the area! I love your photos!

  14. I can tell you about the dorm since I am living in one! :D Most dorms look waaaay more old and "broken" but all of them are kinda clean and nice as far as I've seen until now. I only know people who have to share their rooms though, it's not common to have single rooms in a normal dorm. (I also share my room with a girl). Guess our room is 3 times your hotel room, but for two people :) I don't mind since I love my roommate but I can imagine it can get really bad >__<

Btw, I really like the pictures you took at night! Japan looks fabulous at night with all the glitter and sparkle around :)

  15. Great photos of Shinjuku! Yup rooms in affordable business hotels tend to be like shoeboxes but okay for one. I stayed in a room like that with my husband in Hiroshima...it was challenging and thank goodness it was for only one night haha...

  16.  Oh wow, in London too? I would have thought they should be more accustomed to having tall people and of bigger build, especially compared to Asia. Now I can't wait until the next time I stay at a night, big American hotel, lol, I'll definitely enjoy and appreciate it even more than before!

  17.  Aww thanks for telling me! I was really curious to check out the universities in Seoul, I might have to walk around the campus next time but I still wouldn't know about the dorms, hehe. I didn't mind my hotel room since it was just me but def would have hated to share. Luckily I didn't spend that much time inside. I love city night pics! I hope I can go again to explore more, hopefully then I will have a better idea of where to go. :)

  18.  You shared? Omgosh I hope your room was somewhat bigger! I'm glad you only stayed for one night in a small hotel room though. My hotel rooms in Seoul and Incheon were much bigger, hehe, although I definitely felt the pressure to be small and skinny in both places. :P

  19. Yeah I am VERY lucky that my roommate and I are quite the same (can't sleep, sleep until noon then, eat late and not doing annoying things inside the room) I guess I would freak out with every other person inside, lol.  I knew here beforehand, I wouldn't want to live together with a total unknown person, but that's the normal way it goes! :/

Sad we just knew each other since short, I surely could've told you a few spots where to go :) Maybe next time!
