This was my simple hotel room. Is this what a college dorm single looks like? Wouldn't know since I didn't dorm. This is actually probably smaller, haha. It was very small but I'd expected that so I wasn't surprised. These kinds of rooms really are made for small people though. When I stood in the tiny bathroom, I could touch the ceiling with my hands and I'm only 5'1.5" (155 cm.)!
I stayed in Shinjuku in the skyscraper district. This area reminded me a lot of downtown LA, but much cleaner. My hotel room had a view of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
It was only a short walk to Shinjuku station and shopping. Aside from meeting up with Nic, this was my home base and where I spent the rest of my time in Tokyo.
Rain or shine, I was here...mostly rain, hehe, and more cloudy gray than shine.
Shinjuku is a really great location to stay in if you want to be able to walk around and shop, as well as find lots of restaurants. It's also very well lit at night and you'll see tons of people.
I ate a lot of yummy foods in Tokyo but tried not too indulge too much since I wanted to lose my winter weight, haha. I already miss all the fresh, homemade noodles!
A lot of the small restaurants have machines outside where you pay for your meal first. It's kind of cool and efficient, unless you have a question about the item or, orrrrrr if the machine doesn't have pictures and you can't read Japanese.
Since I wasn't eating a lot, I mean like big meals on my own, a lot of what I had was rather simple and usually under 1,000 yen.
The weather was rather gray and chilly while I was there so I ate lots of comfort foods, like this Tsukemen chashu ramen, which is a dipping ramen. The serving was huge! It was very delicious although salty. The ramen was fresh and fat, haha, just the way I like my noodles.
Karage (Japanese fried chicken or in this case, I think it was pork) curry, potato croquet, and soba soup.
There were tons of Family Marts and lots of 7-11s everywhere. A lot of the food selections were similar to Famima!! and Mitsuwa, but of course I found some new things to try like the Boss French Roast coffee and other snacks like dessert cups and chocolates.
This Monday is Memorial Day so for everyone in the states, I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend! I will most likely announce the giveaway winners either late Monday or on Tuesday, so please come back and check then.
